This €50 million project is proposed to commence on site in late 2015, and involves the erection of a nine storey new extension to the existing hospital. Learn more about this project
The project has required detailed safety planning and phasing as part of the design stage to ensure the existing hospital continues to function without risk to patients or staff and in particular, that traffic movements, both pedestrian and vehicular, can be safely maintained for the duration of the works. Safety planning issues also involved addressing existing extensive services diversions as part of the enabling works (without interruption of hospital services); planning for the erection of a bailey bridge over the river Lee to facilitate construction works, and the removal of the existing traffic bridge and design of a new of a new permanent, and larger traffic bridge over the river.
